Reactiviy and stability of organic molecules

The study of reactivity encompasses all the methods of identification and dosing functions and, through them, the molecule itself. But knowledge of the reactivity is also and especially the study of the properties of functional groups, the influence of other functions and fingerprint of the molecule.

Why analysing organic molecules reactivity and stability?

The study of the reactivity of organic molecules and accelerated stability testing are essential in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food processing, where one must anticipate changes in the quality of products under the influence of external factors that can transform them, such as temperature, humidity, light, oxygen, pH, in order to define the conditions for storage and transport, and the expiry date. Multiple reactions can be implemented such as racemization, isomerization, cyclization, hydrolysis, oxidation-reduction, esterification, photolysis, biochemical or enzymatic reactions.

Note also that the study of the reactivity of the molecule is sometimes possible to predict drug metabolism : the shelf life determination an organic molecule undergoes in vitro under the influence of various reagents or under conditions similar biological conditions (pH, ionic strength ) allow a first working hypothesis for the prediction of drug degradation in the body.
